Founded in September 1999, the Eghezée Academy Big Band was originally an ensemble created on the initiative of the brass class at the Eghezée Academy of Music as an extension of the class's activities. Its aims were to stimulate and complement musical studies by applying them in real situations. By real situation we mean the preparation of a Big Band repertoire at a level of difficulty suited to the participants, with performances outside the Academy.
In 10 years, the Big Band de l'Académie d'Eghezée has established itself as a major force on the Namur music scene.
In September 2009, the ensemble will take off again following the appointment of its Conductor and Musical Director, Dominique Bodart, as Principal Trumpet of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland.
In order to continue performing and progressing, the Big Band will be leaving the Académie de Musique to become not only independent, but to continue under the direction of Dominique Bodart. To this end, it will now be managed by the non-profit organisation Brass Promotion and will work solely on a project basis. It will also change its name to Big Band Academy Eghezée (BBAE).
With its 20 members, the ensemble often collaborates with great artists at national and international festivals (Belgium, Italy, France, etc.) in order to broaden its repertoire and allow its musicians to benefit from the experience of these artists. Richard Decamps, Adam Rapa, Hervé Noirot, Rex Richarson and many others are among these prestigious guests.
The BBAE recorded 2 CDs:
– In The Groove 2011
– Big Band Academy Eghezée/Guest Artist Adam Rapa 2018
